Talk of concussions has become more prominent lately—for a good reason. The CDC estimates that 3.8 million concussions occur each year, with only one in six diagnosed by a medical professional.
Watch the above important video featuring Dr. Steven Zonnerand former 49er offensive lineman, Ben Lynch review the symptoms of concussion and the danger of untreated concussions.
The staff members of Washington Sports Medicine also help patients learn how to prevent future injuries and find ways to improve current performance. Washington Sports Medicine works directly with the Washington Outpatient Rehabilitation Center, Washington Outpatient Surgery Center, Washington Urgent Care, and other affiliates to provide a full range of diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation services.
Our sports medicine program fills a growing need in the sports community for high quality medical services. Athletes and physically active people can receive quality sports medicine care right here in southern Alameda County. We're focused on getting local residents back in the game. Experts are collaborating with several area high schools and universities to give teams, coaches, and parents the guidance needed to treat young athletes, while teaching them about conditioning and injury prevention.
Dr. Nord serves as Medical Director of the Washington Sports Medicine program. He completed his Sports Medicine fellowship at Stanford University where he took care of Stanford athletes and served as a team physician for the Stanford football team. Dr. Nord is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in Sports Medicine. While, his interests focus on the knee, shoulder and hip, he treats a variety of conditions in both the athlete and non-athlete. Dr. Nord is a firm believer that often, with the appropriate therapy, the body is able to heal itself without surgery. However, when surgery is necessary, Dr. Nord typically elects for an arthroscopic or minimally invasive technique.
Dr. Goldin is a fellowship-trained physiatrist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions in a variety of patients.
Treatment typically includes the correction of biomechanical deficits through detailed and focused physical therapy, possible short courses of pain medications, and various types of injection procedures. He performs traditional injections that historically have involved steroids to help with inflammation, and also has an interest in more novel growth factor injections that use the body’s own growth factors to help heal various injuries. In addition, Dr. Goldin is trained in electrodiagnostics and musculoskeletal ultrasound. He can use these when appropriate in order to make a diagnosis and determine appropriate treatment.
Dr. Goldin earned his medical degree at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, and went on to do his internship at Tucson Hospital Medical Education Program in Arizona. He completed his physiatry residency at Stanford.
