Planned Gifts

You do not need to be wealthy to leave a legacy. Make your core valued known by joining the Washington Hospital Legacy Society by making a planned gift to Washington Hospital. Members of our legacy society are generous and forward-thinking individuals who are committed to the health and well-being of district residents, now and for generations to come.

Through planned giving, donors establish their personal financial goals in a tailored estate plan that includes a gift to a charitable institution like Washington Hospital Healthcare Foundation. Planned giving offers personal income and tax benefits for you and your family, while making a difference for patients throughout our community. We encourage you to consult with your financial advisor to discuss the tax implications of planned gifts. Common planned giving arrangements include:

Wills and Trusts
One of the easiest ways to help involves simply naming Washington Hospital as a beneficiary in your will and living trust. A bequest may be for a particular dollar amount or percentage of your estate. Estate tax savings may be significant.
• Life Insurance Policy and Retirement Assets
Often overlooked by donors, naming Washington Hospital as a partial beneficiary of these assets can provide support for our Hospital.
• Life Income Gifts
Life income gifts allow you to leave a gift in the care of Washington Hospital, while earning income for yourself during your lifetime. The two most popular life income gifts are charitable remainder trusts and charitable gift annuities.
• Complex Gifts
If you are a business owner, own real property or have any other type of complex asset, giving options exist that can both help Washington Hospital and benefit your family financially.

Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCD)
70 1/2 or older, having a Roth or traditional IRA, and want to make a required minimum distribution from you IRA. Consider making a gift to Washington Hospital with a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA, which counts towards your required annual distribution.

Legacy Society members become a special part of the Washington Hospital family. They are also honored with a lifetime of privileges, including:
Recognition on our website
Tributes in publications such as quarterly newsletters and the Hospital’s Annual Report
An annual Legacy Society Luncheon
Invitations to exclusive events, including discussions with Hospital leadership and physicians

Contact the Foundation at 510-818-7350 or foundation@whhs.com to discuss membership in the Washington Hospital Legacy Society and how your legacy can support the health care needs of our community that are most important to you. We are truly grateful for your interest in keeping Washington Hospital strong, now and long into the future.
