What

World Breastfeeding Week 2017 kicks off on Tuesday, August 1, and continues through Monday, August 7. This year’s theme is Sustaining Breastfeeding Together, and part of a global effort to encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies around the world.

nurses teamWashington Hospital Healthcare System and its top-rated Birthing Center are celebrating World Breastfeeding Week by presenting an important community event. On Tuesday, August 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 2500 Mowry Ave. in Fremont, California, families and future families are invited to learn more about the benefits of breastfeeding for baby and mom.

“Participants will meet pediatricians, nurses, lactation consultants and other experts,” said Nancy Farber, chief executive officer at Washington Hospital. “It’s a wonderfully skilled staff. They have a tremendous passion for newborn education, and for giving babies the best possible start in life.”

That passion has led to recognition. Washington Hospital Healthcare System has been designated Baby-FriendlyTM, part of a global program launched by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund to encourage and recognize hospitals and birthing centers that offer an optimal level of care for infant feeding and mother/baby bonding.

“We’re proud to join health care providers around the globe to raise awareness of what breastfeeding means to a baby’s health,” added Farber, “and we can’t wait to share this information with the community.”
