Aetna and Washington Hospital Healthcare System Reach New Agreement

Walnut Creek, Calif. and Fremont, Calif., August 21, 2014 -- Aetna (NYSE: AET) and Washington Hospital Healthcare System announced today that the two organizations have signed a new three-and-a-half year contract. The new contract, which takes effect on September 1, 2014, will give Aetna HMO, PPO and Medicare Advantage members innetwork access to Washington Hospital Healthcare System for the first time since October 1, 2012.

“We are pleased to welcome Washington Hospital back in our network,” said John Pickett, Aetna’s network head for Northern California. “This new agreement will allow us to continue offering our members access to a broad network of high-quality hospitals and physicians in Northern California.”

Washington Township Health Care District includes Fremont, Newark, Union City, South Hayward and Unincorporated Sunol and has a population of more than 320,000. Aetna/Washington Hospital Healthcare System/2 Aetna provides health benefits to more than 300,000 members in Northern California. Those members have access to a contracted network of 100 hospitals and more than 14,000 primary care doctors and specialists.
