Fremont, CA (February 28, 2018) - Washington Hospital Healthcare System
announced today that it has received the America’s 100 Best Hospitals
Award™ from Healthgrades. This recognition places Washington Hospital
Healthcare System among the top 2 percent of hospitals in the United States
for clinical excellence. Healthgrades evaluated nearly 4,500 hospitals
nationwide for their clinical performance across a broad spectrum of conditions
and procedures. Washington Hospital is also only one of 20 hospitals in
California to receive this distinguished award from Healthgrades.
“This award is a reflection of the leadership of our board of directors
and the work of all of our compassionate staff, physicians, and volunteers
who are committed each and every day to providing high-quality care to
our patients,” said Nancy Farber, chief executive officer of the
341-bed, acute care hospital. “We are proud of this honor for many
reasons, but especially because our primary focus as a district hospital
is to meet the health care needs of our community. This award validates
our ongoing hard work and dedication to our mission and our community.”
According to Healthgrades, from 2014 through 2016, patients treated in
hospitals achieving Healthgrades America's 100 Best Hospitals Award
had, on average, 22.3 percent lower risk of dying than if they were treated
in hospitals that did not receive this award, as measured across 19 rated
conditions and procedures where mortality is the outcome.* During this
same period, if all other hospitals, as a group, performed at the level
of America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™ recipients across these
19 procedures and conditions, 162,284 lives could potentially have been saved.*
“We commend the recipients of Healthgrades America’s 100 Best
Hospital Award™ for their commitment to delivering exceptional clinical
outcomes,” said Brad Bowman, chief medical officer, Healthgrades.
“The choice of a hospital is an important decision— one that
can be a matter of life and death — so consumers should do their
research and use trusted information like this to assess and select their
facility of choice.”
“Washington Hospital has been a leader in this community for the
past six decades,” said Farber “and on our 60th anniversary
year, it is an honor to be recognized by this national organization for
our commitment to excellence in patient care. Being named one of the top
100 hospitals in the nation is a recognition we accept with humility and
a determination to become even better.”
The 100 recipients of the America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™
stand out among the rest for overall clinical excellence across a broad
spectrum of care. During the 2018 study period (2014-2016), these hospitals
showed superior performance in clinical outcomes for patients in the Medicare
population across at least 21 of 32 most common inpatient conditions and
procedures— a measured by objective performance data (risk-adjusted
mortality and in-hospital complications). *
Washington Hospital Healthcare System has also received the America’s
100 Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement Award, the America’s 100
Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery Award, Five-Star Distinctions for
Treatment of Heart Attack for a third consecutive year (2016-2018), Total
Knee Replacement for 13 years in a row (2006-2018), Total Hip Replacement
for 15 years in a row (2004-2018), Treatment of Sepsis for a fourth consecutive
year (2015-2018) and Treatment of Pneumonia.
