Event Proceeds will help equip the trauma rooms in the Morris Hyman Critical
Care Pavilion
Washington Hospital Healthcare Foundation’s 29th Annual Top Hat Dinner
Dance took place on October 10, raising over $257,000 to help equip the
trauma rooms in the Morris Hyman Critical Care Pavilion. The honorary
co-chairs were Dr. David and Laura Orenberg and Major General Garrett
Yee and Maria Vera-Yee.
645 guests attended the gala, which took place in a beautiful tent on the
grounds of Washington West. Guests enjoyed an outstanding meal prepared
and served by McCalls of San Francisco. During the live auction guests
generously contributed $197,000 to support the trauma rooms. Following
dinner, the dance floor lit up and guests danced until Midnight. Those
who preferred a quieter setting enjoyed music, conversation and after
dinner cocktails in the Anderson Jazz Lounge.
Trauma patients have the best chance of survival if they are seen by a
surgeon within 60 minutes – the “golden hour” –
of being injured. With these trauma rooms, patients will no longer be
transported out the District for life-saving care. Instead, they will
be treated here in Fremont, close to where they live.
Rod Silveira, Foundation President, said, “I am so pleased that proceeds
from this year’s Top Hat gala will help support an urgent need for
trauma care right here in our community. My sincere thanks are due to
our wonderful Top Hat co-chairs. Also, thank you to all our sponsors,
guests and volunteers who make this a special event each year. Make sure
to mark your calendar now for Top Hat XXX, taking place on October 8,
2015. It will be a special evening, celebrating 30 years!”
