Washington Hospital's Diabetes Program Receives Prestigious Accreditation
Washington Hospital’s diabetes education programs and services are facilitated by nurses and dietitians who are certified diabetes educators. These specialists work with people individually and they also facilitate group discussions related to diabetes education.
Over the last year, Washington Hospital has expanded its diabetes program to include a range of programs and classes geared toward specific topics related to diabetes management. Some of the programs include:
Diabetes and Pregnancy – Sweet Success Program
An education program that works with women who have diabetes and wish to become pregnant or those experiencing gestational diabetes.
Diabetes BASICS Program
Following the International Diabetes Center’s curriculum, the BASICS program focuses on teaching need-to-know information and skills that guide participants to successful diabetes self-management.
Diabetes Matters
A free, monthly diabetes education class with expert speakers and group discussion to provide information and increase knowledge about diabetes.
Diabetes Exercise Program
An exercise program specifically designed for people with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. Supervised by a registered nurse and an exercise physiologist.
"We are broadening our approach to better meet the needs of the community," says Garnero, who was named 2004-2005 National Diabetes Educator of the Year by the American Association of Diabetes Educators. "We are here as a resource."
